Persoonlijk Leiderschap
Over the past two decades our view on leadership has evolved.
Back in 90’s, we expected leaders to be subject matter experts, possessing many years of hands-on experience. Autocratic management style was common and widely accepted in most organizations. Pushing the decisions and imposing close control and compliance were part of business environment. Such hierarchical, command and control structures of the past are gone.
Today’s leaders are being valued for their strong personal leadership and exceptional emotional intelligence.
Being a leader to yourself is about shaping your future rather than letting time, chance and other people determine your course. It is based on deep understanding of your own vision and core values. Only then, your passion, motivation and creativity become natural, authentic, and sustainable.
Your inner life has an important baring on what happens to you on the outside. Having strong personal leadership skills also makes you an outstanding role model for those you lead at work and demonstrates these vital skills to them so that they can do the same in their lives.
" Personal leadership is the process of keeping you vision and values before you and aligning your life to be congruent with them. "
Stephen Covey
If we are not honest with ourselves about what we really want, it can be hard to find the motivation to succeed. We might end up setting our priorities according to expectations or the norms of the society and not according to ourselves. Staying and acting within the accepted boundaries makes us feel self-confident. However, we do not learn much of new things.
Developing Leadership
How can we discover our personal values and get clarity on our goals? How to know and choose what is right for ourselves?
Developing leader in yourself is an ongoing process that involves rational, emotional and spiritual aspects. It requires regular reflection and self-evaluation. Next to that, drawing upon the limitless power of our intuition, we listen to our inner voice and thus significantly amplifying the effect of personal development. Only when challenging ourselves by touching the unknown, by stepping on the edge of our comfort zone, we expand our experience and build our personal leadership.
